Title: Maps in the physical world
Post by RobertW on Apr 19th, 2009, 9:39am

I spotted a colleague at work building this http://www.flickr.com/photos/birame/3455013233/ with stickies, pushpins, and index cards.

I added the photo to the Tinderbox Software pool http://www.flickr.com/groups/726362@N21/pool/ on Flickr.

The IT department keeps an iron grip over what is installed on company computers, so Tinderbox isn't an option for us during work hours.

Has anyone else spotted things that should go in Tinderbox?

Unless your IT has you running simple finder or has made it impossible for you to write to your home directory, you can install  Tinderbox in your home directory and run it from there. Typically, such set ups will include a ~/Applications directory. If not, you can make one yourself.

Thank you for being helpful. Here's what "iron grip" means
1.) We're on Windows
2.) We don't have administrative rights.
3.) We can't use online storage systems, or write to disks or flash drives
4.) Most documents are written collaboratively, or at least distributed, requiring a "critical mass" of people with an app.
5.) It's officially forbidden to install your own software, so this critical mass would never occur.
Etc. - you get the idea.

But your response is making it clearer to me why more big corporations don't use Macs.

It also made me think it would be cool if there were a web-based version of Tinderbox, perhaps done with Ajax, along the lines of Google docs.

But that would be a huge undertaking, not artisanal software.
