Title: A Smattering of Suggestions
Post by Akiva R. Schoen on Jan 9th, 2012, 3:51pm

I've been building up this list for awhile (and these are in no specific order).

In the Windows menu, show to which document a window belongs.
Drag a URL to the URL button in a note's sidebar.
Set font family, size, and color in the outline independently from the map.
In Outline view, if columns are present, TAB goes from note $Title to each column then to the next row.
Change the indentation in Outline view.
Auto-complete $KeyAttributes in the note window.
Mark $KeyAttributes as uneditable in the note window (thus they can be changed by Agents but not by the user).
Unify Attributes dropdown and Info button in sidebar.
A stamp for an Outline: I can set up an Outline with certain columns, etc., and then apply that to future Outline windows.
Hoist a note without having to first make it into a container by dragging a second note into it.
Keyboard shortcut for hoisting.
Add menu commands to the toolbar (especially stamps).
Option to orient toolbar vertically.
User-provided graphics for patterns and badges.
Inverse bevels.
Specify corner rounding for rounded corner note shape.
Agent queries in the Find dialog.
Link a note from one TBX to another.
Re-organized and clearer preferences.
Modernized UI (HID compliant?).
Gesture-aware.
Preference screen for setting note defaults for color, border, shading, etc. For new users, it's very confusing to have to drill down into the system defaults for these Attributes. A UI front-end to edit that would be very handy.
Re-organization/renaming of Attributes and categories. I've been using Tinderbox for awhile now and I still can't remember where some Attributes are.
Rename user-defined Attributes.
In Attribute pop-up (for example, when selecting sort criteria) using submenus rather than a huge, single list.
Search feature for Attributes.

I know some of these are wishful thinking but I think some of them are practical.

Thanks!

Hoist does have a shortcut - here. Same restriction as in UI re needing a child for a hoist to work.

Custom badges: here.

Custom fills are effectively custom patterns.

Excellent. Thanks, Mark!

Key Attribute strings already have autocompletion.

Ah, I should have been more specific; I was referring to a set in particular.

Autocompletion of sets: do you envision completing common sets:

     Winken;Blinken;Nod

or auto completing individual members?

Hamlet; Laertes; Ophelia

I've certainly found myself wanting to match discrete values. By implication, in this context typing a semi-colon in the Key Attribute would tell auto-match to start a new match fro characters after the last semi-colon.

I can see that one might want to match the overall value string (or substrings thereof) though it seems a far less likely event than a per-discrete value match.

I agree with MarkA--matching individual members would be very useful. For folks that want to match a whole series of values for a common set, stamps would work better.

Yep, I was mainly thinking about individual members of a set and not the entire set.

I'd like to be able to put a Fill as the background for maps and outlines.

Patterned backgrounds in maps and outlines can be something of a performance headache, especially when editing in place.  I'm also a little uncomfortable with their bordering on chart junk.

That said, we could give it a shot again.

I do like a discrete texture sometimes however that request isn't a big deal.

Search feature for Attributes.

I would find this useful, particularly in the Quickstamp Inspector.  I'm always clicking around trying to remember (or guess) the group to which an attribute belongs.

Perhaps a box to search for attribute names.  Or, if that's not practical, maybe a checkbox in the Quickstamp panel that would toggle the attribute list's presentation between the default alphabetical by group, to merely alphabetical -- in the manner that the attribute list is presented in the Rename... panel.
