Title: Export a MAP
Post by robodean on Feb 23rd, 2013, 2:13pm

I would like a simple way to export a large resolution PDF or PNG of a TB map. I need to share the structure of a complex flow diagram, not the HTML of an outline, etc.

Is there a simple way to do this?
I have tried to print to a PDF, but the results are mixed as it is based on page sizes, and the maps are often cropped at odd places.

Thanks
Dean

I frequently use PDF exports of maps.  The most reliable process I've settled on is to create a custom page size in Tinderbox > File > Page Setup > Paper Size > Manage Custom Sizes…, then print the PDF to Preview, and crop it.  "Create a custom page size" is a trial-and-error procedure -- try the built-in sizes and then adjust from there when you've found a size close to what you want.

Further to Paul's answer, see this tutorial.

Limitations of the frameworks used in v5 mean that map export other than by print isn't possible at present. However, v6 (in dev at present) will hopefully resolve this limitation ere long.

I use TB almost exclusively in maps, as my process requires visualization more than it does outlining per se. But, I need to share the structure, which I build visually, with colleagues and even on the road on my iPad.

Looking forward to V6!

Thanks

UPDATE: I have noticed however, that the "zoom level" of the map affects  its size when exporting to PDF. This makes sense, but it's also slightly counter-intuitive, as I expected the export to ignore how zoomed in I am. Anyhow. FYI.
