Title: Print formatted HTML export?
Post by james a. foster on Jun 4th, 2014, 10:06pm

sorry if this is another dumb question, but...in TBX 5 I would open the HTML view, preview my html format, print that, and thereby get a pdf of my formatted document. How to I get a pdf of my formatted html in TBX 6?

When I export to html. I get the entire database, not just the part of the outline I am formatting. When I preview, there is no print or export-to-pdf option. When I print, I get a rendering of the outline, not the formatted html.

In v5, preview actually exports the document - so a web bowser can then use it to preview.  The current system makes that go away but brining the web browser into the app.

If you're working with plain text (no markup) then 'preview' in/copy from the 'HTML' tab. Yes, I realise that sounds slightly counter intuitive.

Separately, I don't think there is, so far, any design intent to print from the HTML/Preview panes of text. I guess that is a 'feature request' at this time.

Perhaps the easiest "new feature" would be an open-in command. Actually, that would be useful in all the views. I use BBEDIT for editing the text field many times, and the ability to open in an external browser would bring that into the mix.

As always, thanks for the info.

I am stumped. Preview in/copy from HTML view isn't working. When I paste, all I get is the Name field from the top level of the Outline, not the contents of the HTML view.

This is a critical and immediate problem for me. I have to be able to print my CV for a grant proposal!

This copy/paste idea DID work once, but no longer works. I don't see what changed between those two time.

It seems the HTML pane has problems acting as the focus for shortcuts. With the Text/HTML pane active, Cmd+A seems to select all of the main view. Having selected HTML code in the view Cmd+C seems to sometimes copy the note's $Name instead of the selection. I'm sure this will be fixed.  Until then I advise:
  • To select HTML pane output, drag-select. Do not use a shortcut.
  • To copy selected code, do not use a shortcut. Right-click and choose 'copy' from the pop-up menu.
I don't think these limitations are by intent and shortcut access should be possible ere long.

Thanks! I would never have come across this solution on my own I always copy either by Cmd-C or the menu Edit/Copy commands, neither of which (it turns out) copies the HTML code in the right way. And I didn't imagine that the results of doing it via right-click Copy could be different, as clearly they are. So I just assumed that for some obscure reason copying the code "didn't work." Appreciate it.
