Title: Have a simple button for Prototypes
Post by Rigas Arvanitis on Aug 13th, 2014, 8:32am

Suggestion for Tbx6: The $Prototype attribute is very useful and very basic. There should be a simple access above the text window manner to design a note as prototype.

I know this is easy to do with a stamp. But then, first you need to make a stamp, then you need to got to the menu... Not really straightforward.

Best

(its a bit along the same line as preceding suggestion by James Foster:  http://www.eastgate.com/Tinderbox/forum//YaBB.pl?num=1403102041 )

The button, actually a tick-box, to designate a note as a prototype is in the Document Inspector (Cmd+). My understanding is the design aim of the text panel is to reduce the number of control, to give a clean UIs. Most controls are now easily available from the Inspector.

Exactly! What I suggest is in the particular case of Prototype, to have a simple control, not to go through the hierarchical search of the tick-box in an "inspector".

Ways to set the prototype:

a) The inspector's Prototype panel has a pull-down menu, exactly as you are proposing; it's just placed in the inspector rather than the text pane. No hierarchy is involved; just click and choose.

b) Your reference to hierarchy suggests you're using Quickstamp instead. Don't overlook the search field in Quickstamp -- with autocomplete, it's very very fast.

c) In outlines, right-click the icon for a prototype menu.

d) In maps, click the prototype tab for a prototype menu.

Thank you (god himself responding :).

I effectively made a quickstamp to avoid searching through the pull-down menu. My suggestion was to have a button just above the text area because its a sort of basic control. You want just to have the user push the button and that toggles $IsPrototype on/off.

Just for others who read this/ M. Anderson made a good list of the various ways to set a prototype in Tinderbox 6: http://shoantel.clarify-it.com/d/e4696a

(I'll stop working today .. promise... you must be  fed up with my questions). Best

I do think the pulldown menu in the PROTOTYPE inspector is exactly what you need. Quickstamp's nice, but a red herring.
