Title: TB 6.1 supports multi-window display
Post by J Fallows on Oct 2nd, 2014, 4:02pm

I see that Eastgate has released TB6.1. To the best of my knowledge, it is the first release version to support a  feature that I find tremendously important.

That is the ability to create and save multiple-window layouts, so they last from one session to another. I was among those users who were sorry to lose that ability in the move from TB5. It is back now, after beta testing.

Here is the main tip I've learned for using it: When you have a multi-window arrangement that you would like to save, close out your work in that file not with a simple Cmd-W (which closes a window) but with Shift-Cmd-W, the "close document" command. You can also see it on the File menu if you hold the shift key.  If you use Cmd-W to close windows one by one, in some circumstances they'll all come back on re-opening. But Shift-Cmd-W pretty much ensures that the settings persist.

This is a big plus, and glad to see it.  (List of other features here:

It also brings the ability to export a single note. Which reminds me that my references to a major revamp of export 'in v6.1' were a bit premature. Change is planned, but I'll stop referring to version numbers!

First thing I looked for (revamped export). ;)

Multiple-window layouts is very cool. Thanks for that post, J Fallows.

I'm still climbing a steep learning curve harnessing the potential power of TB6 for my projects. But the sense of excitement I felt seeing the announcement, then downloading TB 6.1 and looking for some of the new features was fun.

Some nice changes -- thanks very much to the team.

As well as the improved window management, I'm particularly glad to see these two changes -- they'll make a big difference in ease of use for me.

Key attributes: after editing a value and pressing , the focus moves to the next row. (1074)

From the text pane, ⌘⌥-up-arrow and ⌘⌥-down-arrow move the selection in the view pane up or down, equivalent to up-arrow and down-arrow in the view pane. (1000)

Thanks again

I've updated the shortcut list to reflect DB's last point.

This doesn't work for me :(

I close with Shift-Cmd-W, but still only get one window when I reopen

Any ideas where I should look to get this working? (I'm on 6.1.1)

FWIW, I confirmed just now that the multi-window save works as expected on my setup. (MacBook Air / Yosemite / TB 6.1.1)

@mrkwr, the save relates only to main (two-pane) windows in case thats the issue. Tear offs and note text windows aren't saved between sessions - or such is my understanding as at v6.1.1.

That's my experience too.
