Title: Defining string attributes $ProtagonistGender
Post by Simon A Graham on Oct 18th, 2015, 6:05pm

Hi,

I think I have set up my own user attribute as defined on pages 34 and 35 in Getting Started. But unless I am really over thinking it, I am thrown by the sentence 'In your document, define a string attribute $ProtagonistGender...'

Is 'define a string attribute $ProtagonistGender' the same as assigning it through the + button on the text panel of your note/document?

Thanks

In this case there are two tasks described in mid page 35.  First, create a new String-type attribute called "ProtagonistGender" using the Document Inspector's User pane (the UI illustrated page p34).  Once you have defined the attribute in this document it can be used by any/all notes. The second task is to add the new attribute as a key attribute, as shown on page 35, using the '+' on the top right of the text pane.

There are mechanisms to to define/add new attributes on the fly, but for now - whilst you're feeling your way into the app - I'd do the process in two steps as above.
