How To Post To Expression Engine
Nov 17th, 2009, 2:37pm

I'm looking for answers to the following questions:
  • Is it possible to post directly from Tinderbox to Expression Engine? At the moment I'm assuming I will have to cut and paste - not the most productive approach when considering that computers should be doing the mundane work for us.
  • If it is possible to directly post then where in the Tinderbox knowledge base would I learn how to go about the process?

I don't know where to start this learning process.

EE has a Metaweblog API & Movable Type API Module and they reference the use of 'Ecto' and 'MarsEdit' but nothing about Tinderbox.

I'd appreciate any references to where I can go to learn about this, assuming its possible.

I have no knowledge of blog interfaces.

Thanks

RB

You might try adapting the Tinderbox "Blogger" settings (which use MetaWeblog API) to Expression Engine...

Richard,

I am a long-time EE user. This might help get you started:

1. Start in Expression Engine. Make sure the Blogger API module is 'installed' in EE.

2. Open that module and copy the URL displayed on the first screen. You will paste this URL into the Tinderbox document preference dialog for 'weblogs'.

3. Get the ID for your weblog from EE. Go to Admin-->Weblog Administration-->Weblog Management to find it listed. You will use this in Tinderbox.

4. Return to Tinderbox and open Document Preferences. Click on the Weblogs tab.

5. Paste the URL from EE into the Servers field.

6. Enter your EE user login name into the User field.

7. Enter your EE user password into the Password field.

8. Enter the number of your EE weblog into the Weblog ID field.

9. Choose 'Blogger' as the Weblog type.

10. Click OK to save the new settings in Tinderbox.

To test things, view a Tinderbox outline window and click in the window to make it the focus. Select "Get Recent Weblog Posts".

If all went well, Tinderbox will request your most recent 15 EE posts for the selected weblog, retrieve them and display them within the outline.

Let me know how it goes. I have a few tips for you after we get you to this point.

"Get Recent Weblog Posts" is the bottom item on the Note menu. (I had to poke around to remind myself where it was!). It's greyed out unless your TBX Weblog preferences are configured correctly.

@ Russ

First thanks for taking the time to outline the connection process, very much appreciated.

After a couple of false starts, my cockpit error, I have this working as expected.

Any other pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again

RB

Hi
I'm trying now tb 5.0 as a newby. Blogging to Blogger is a must. Though I put all the specs for blogger in - but it doesn't work. Sad Recent blogger posts aren't displayed, notes can't be posted...
Any suggestions? Thx.

As I understand the situation, Blogger does not currently accept the Blogger API, which is what Tinderbox currently uses.

That's one of life's little ironies!

We're working on the Atom API, which will address this.
