"Planning, Organizing and Managing" from Eastgate
Jun 22nd, 2011, 5:41pm

An unsolicited recommendation for the just-release Eastgate tutorial CD "Planning, Organizing, and Managing".  I'm just beginning to dig into this knowledge trove, and it's very worthwhile.  Many thanks to Mark B, Mark A, Stacy M, and all those who contributed to the disk.

Thanks!  Feel free to discuss the CD -- we simply need to work out some details for the Web page.

Thanks for the recommendations, guys! We worked hard on it.

We'll let you know as soon as the Web site stuff is worked out. I'll be posting a discussion on a couple of the example files once people have had a little time to play with it.

This looks great.  As someone who has a number of Tinderbox weekend CDs, I can testify as to how valuable these worked examples and screencasts are for showing you how to get things done in Tinderbox.

This image (from the CD's page) should inspire a few trying to do dashboards:

From that alone I can see you'll be learning about container plots, bar patterns, table expressions and more.

I'm very confused about the web page describing the CD.  Following the "Volume 1" paragraph, there's one on new screencasts listing 7 topics and others on Twig. The section on "Targeted Examples" lists 7 titles, and more topics are listed below that. Are all these things part of the series 1 CD?  Or do these paragraphs describe the series in general?

If the topics do not describe volume 1, then just what's on the CD?  thanks for any input.

The things listed on the webpage are all included in volume 1.

I have to say I'm very disappointed with the CD. I was hoping for an integrated and structured tutorial which would lead me into an understanding of Tinderbox's advanced features and power.

This seems to a collection of videos and example files from a variety of sources - many of them already available on the internet.

A typical example. Learning how to create a dashboard in screen cast five which lasts for a whole 39 seconds. It refers to an example file. Which file?

If the tutorial does contain a lot of useful information then I'm finding it as inaccessible and confusing as the features as I'm trying to learn about. So something of a Catch 22 experience for me.
