Taking reading notes
Dec 30th, 2013, 2:01pm

Good evening, I've just uploaded a very short video about the way I use Tinderbox in order to take reading notes for my thesis and my publications. I use it every time I have to read a book. This way of doing isn't only more efficient than taking notes into a notebook. It's also a visual way of thinking and organizing my reference materials. I relate that method on my blog in french. The video is here : https://vimeo.com/user23860804.

Good morning,
I've just uploaded a new video about the way I use Tinderbox. In that short video, I'm creating a new note related to a John Dewey's article I'm reading on a fundamental principle of the empirism he sustains. That action (creating a new note) represents an important part of my workflow (readings note taking) : http://www.dominiquerenauld.com/blog/

This morning, I've uploaded a new video about the way I use Tinderbox 6 in the framework of my doctoral thesis, especially in order to take reading notes. Here is the link to my webblog : http://www.dominiquerenauld.fr/category/des-outils-pour-ecrire/
The previous link ( in .com) does not work anymore.
There are other tutorials (in french) about Tinderbox within the same section called "Des outils pour écrire" ("Writing tools").

Another short video about the way I use tags in Tinderbox 6 : http://www.dominiquerenauld.fr/tagge-2/. In version 5, I had a lot of multiple tags separated by ";" and it did not exactly work the way I had in mind. But I am not an expert-user (!) and this explains that. The fact is that the new Tinderbox interface is great for taking notes the way I need to do it : on the fly, computer on the left, book in my hands, as I read a book and gather ideas and references.

Very nicely done.

I am using TB6 and its attribute browser in a similar way. I also add Columns to the AttrBr view, displaying what chapter or section of a work I intend to use the item in, and checkbox columns for whether I have already used something, whether it still needs to be fact-checked, and so on.

I made a short movie (6 minutes long with comments in French and subtitles in English) about Tinderbox and the help it brings me daily in my researches as a note-taking tool. I hope you will enjoy watching it. Here is the link to my website : http://www.dominiquerenauld.fr/taking-notes/

The first time I saw the video Mark Bernstein had made (Planning a book with Tinderbox), I did not understand the usage I could make of such an application. I saw it several times (more than ten ?). Then, I tried Tinderbox. Today, it is one of the first app I launch while using my laptop and the one that gives me so much food for thought especially when it is about to think the way we use informatic tools.

Thanks, Dominique. These videos are brilliant! It's so helpful to see how other people use TBX.  Smiley
