drag note from 1 tbx to another?
Jun 07th, 2014, 11:26am

OK, this is probably very simple, but I'm having trouble dragging a note from 1 tax to another.  Is this possible?

As a work around, I am using copy+paste.

Thanks,
Steve

I seem to recall drag-drop of notes between windows (same or different TBXs) is not implemented.

hi

is this something to be expected? It was the only way I could copy or move notes in map view to a different container node without losing the spatial structure I had created

thanks

Copy/paste of notes between windows (or TBXs) seems to work**. To save anyone asking - and though I didn't expect it work - I can say copy/paste from a v5 doc to a v6 doc doesn't work.

** My example was c.40 nested notes - a section of an outline - copied for v6 doc A to v6 doc B. Structure was maintained. For clarity: not tested - attributes not in both docs, prototypes for pasted notes.

I think modified drag for alias or copy creation is planned but there are more pressing issues at this point.

hi Mark, and thanks

i am referring to spatial structure (in maps). I have not managed to copy (or cut) and paste to a new node (or in root) without losing relative positioning of the copied notes

Concur that a copy or cut and then paste does not maintain $Xpos & $Ypos. It looks like the app makes the pragmatic decision to paste within the current map window.

What is the process that requires the $Xpos/$Ypos consistency? I ask in case there's another way to achieve the aim. For instance, I can see a method using stamps and 2 user attributes. The latter store the current, pre-paste X/Y co-ordinates. The first stamp copies the current position to the attributes, the second writes it back to $Xpos & $Ypos.

Try arranging the notes inside a container. Copy the container, paste it into your new document.

FWIW, if (v6) you drop a selection from a map into a container, they do keep their relative arrangement though not their exact X/Y as per the source map.

hi Mark and Mark

yup, i had checked if copying into the container works (as it did in tb5), and it does

_however_, copying or moving the notes into, not "below", an actual node (root included) does not (as also did in tb5)

am I missing something? This is not an edge scenario for me btw, I use map view 90% of the time, and consolidating different maps into one is quite standard for me

thanks
