Hi,

Is there a fixed character limit for hover expressions?

Thanks,

Ben

From quick experiment (v6.0.2) I don't think there's a fixed limit. For instance, if I join two strings ($A + "\n"+$B) the first string in some cases - i.e. if $A is long - gets truncated with an ellipsis although $B's data shows up. Separately, it appears the panel is also limited to 4-5 lines.

So, I think the exact truncation logic isn't easily guessed so we'll need to get a firmer steer from Eastgate.

At present, the hover text has a fixed maximum size, and truncates text if the string won’t fit in the available space.  We might allow more flexibility here if that's needed.

Hi Mark.  It would be great (for me at least) if the hover expression could show a little more text. Many of my notes are long descriptions of legal cases - I have a $CaseSummary attribute which just gives me an "at a glance" view of what the case is about.  It's usually something like "adjudication - enforcement - adjudicator cannot be appointed under a contractual provision that does not exist" and it's very handy to set the hover expression to $CaseSummary so I can quickly tell, in any view, what a given case was about - presently though this almost always truncates.

Many thanks,

Ben
