moving notes while keeping arrangement (v5 vs v6)
Sep 09th, 2014, 3:13am

this seems to be a process which is more cumbersome and requires me to redo work (re-arranging notes) in v6

v5:
- select container (or note) of interest
- "cmd-alt-m" ("o" or "e") to get map (or other) window, focused on selected note
- press "down" and get a new window _for_ that container
- select notes, adornments, etc.
- drag and drop notes from one container to another (no switching* between windows, and note arrangement is preserved)

* new window is not full screen (just nicely floats above previous window, without covering it completely), so no need to resize / move it

v6:
- open a new window (takes me to root, if i'm not mistaken)
- "cmd-alt-m" ("o" or "e") to get new map (or other) view
- pan or scroll, and "drill down" to find container i want to move notes from/to
- select notes
- cmd-x or cmd-c
- switch back to the target container window
- cmd-v to paste
- re-arrange notes as they where before being pasted

----
i apologize for posting three times in a couple of days. I've decided to make the transition and i appreciate all the help (and figuring out what -if any- troubling for me v6 behaviors will change)

Is the issue the map view position (i.e. $Xpos/$Ypos) when pasted? I.e - map view issue only?

@MarkA

i only use map and outline view (for now at least)

btw, even if i find the note in outline view and switch to map view (with cmd-sh-m) selected note is still not necessarily within displayed portion of map

Testing further on a Map [sic] view, copying a selection of 4 notes and pasting elsewhere on the same map and into a different map (i.e. different parent container):
  • You can't control where on the map the paste occurs.
  • The relative spatial layout of the selection is not maintained.
  • In some cases the paste occurs such that the newly added notes sit directly on top of existing notes hiding them completely.
I think the first problem could be avoided if the Map view context menu had a 'paste here' option, whereby the top left of the copied selection is pasted at the current mouse-down position on the map.

When pasting a note into a map, the new note is placed between the currently-selected note and its next sibling.

hi MarkB

is there a possibility that v6 will support multi-note drag and drop (or pasting) with the option of keeping the original arrangement?

thanks
