Resize pasted Image?
Jul 26th, 2016, 10:05am

I take a lot of screenshots which I paste in TBX notes. In most cases the images are too big. Is there a quick way to reduce an image within TBX. (I guess this is not possible with origin TBX functions, but does anybody now a nice extension for this?)

Thx
D

This isn't part of Tinderbox, but lots of image editors do this brilliantly.  I used to use Skitch to resize, but the current version has lost that functionality; instead, I paste into Acorn, a terrific little editor.

You might also look at Napkin and Clarify.

Although you can add images to maps (see here) and text (see here), Tinderbox isn't an image editor or drawing app. You're much better off sizing the image before import. Not least, the images add to the TBX file size so adding images you know are too big is self-defeating.

If your screen-grab software doesn't support resize/crop/etc., check out the wonderful (and free!) Monosnap in the AppStore. All this grabs I've posted here since c.2103 will have been made/annotated with Monosnap.

I had exactly the same problem when I snap from PDF to TB.

about 4 solutions (approaches) I considered:

1. manually using Skitch or similar tool; as Mark suggested
2. Alfred workflow: http://www.packal.org/workflow/resize-image
3. Automator + hazel --another efficient method:
4. Keyboard Maestro: I find this one to be more effective. Keyboard Maestro helps you to resize the screenshots when you are taking them by zooming out the page itself: and, then, activates TB and pastes it there.  I just hit one keyboard: everything is done for me; from the zooming, to snapping, to activating the previous TB window, to pasting.

I am using the last one now. I can share the macro if you own KM.

Dear Desalegn,
I had exactly the same problem, too.
Could you share the macro for my Keyboard Maestro7.2?

I try to find your macro in Keyboard Maestro Forum.

Please let us know where can we find your macro?

I don't mind where you could post about macro, this Tinderbox Forum or
Keyboard Maestro Forum.
I'm looking forward to it. Yours, WAKAMATSU kunimitsu

Thanks for all your helpful advices.

I guess Keyboard Maestro would come nearest to solve my problem but I'm (currently) not eager to pay the 32 .

Anyhow, I hoped that somebody knows a nice extension like Apples Markup (which I use to annotate images in TBX).

But maybe I should follow Marks advice and create a workflow where I store the screenshots outside TBX..

@Dirkiboy, if you do store the screen grabs outside Tinderbox but still want easy access, don't overlook $File or user File-type attributes. If you add one or more of these to a note's Key Attributes table you will see a folder symbol. For instance, $MyFile in the image below:

Clicking on the folder icon opened the path stored in the attribute using Finder. A file-type attribute could point to a file (e.f. a screen grab) or a folder (a folder of screen grabs). Finder either shows the folder in Finder itself or opens the file using the app associated with that file(type): screen grabs (JPG, PNG)would most likely get opened in Preview on a plain-vanilla Mac set-up, but on graphic artist's Mac might open in Photoshop, etc.

hi WAKAMATSU

I think you need to adopt a bit. What app do you use to read PDF?
(CMD+9 is for PDF expert: it is the Fit Width command; u can use the same command on your reader of choice). You can also deactivate the last two commands if you don't want to return to the PDF after pasting.

Dear Desalegn,
Thanks a lot.
I got your Macro.zip.
I uses to use Skim as PDF viewer,
because I am a person who favors LaTeX.

I will find delight in doing your macro.

I would like talk about something else with Tinderbox.
Shortcut for Export as HTML should be [Shift+Cmnd+H].
But I could not use it with Tinderbox 6.6.3,yet.
Do not you use with Keyboard Maestro macro for Export as HTML ?

Little while ago, I wrote an au secures to Keyboard Maestro Forum.

If you have some idea using Keyboard Maestro macro,
let me know how to write this.

Thanks in advance. Yours, WAKAMATSU  Smiley

@WAKAMATSU -  HTML Export and shortcuts. I think I'm to blame there. This is a shortcut that changed going from v5 to v6.

v6's Export has more ways to export. The old v5 HTML view is now effectively in 2 parts. The code and preview parts are now tabs on the text pane (these extra tabs are hidden by default since v6.5.0). The rest of the controls are in the HTML Inspector. I don't think there are any v6 shortcuts for export - but I've made a note to update the aTbRef shortcut lists.

If you've any questions on HTML Export, do please start a thread over in the 'Exporting from Tinderbox' section of the forum.  Smiley
