using tags - openmeta
Jan 6th, 2017, 6:22pm

Hi,

How can I use $tags? Idea / goal is to have Devonthink tags, MailTags and Evernote tags work together if possible to some extent.

I've searched and found > attributes > References > Tags and also >Simplenote > SimplenoteTags but it's not clear how to use them.

I think it has to do with this but don't see how to use it..

What I'd like to achieve is the analogy of layers as they are used in a lot of drawing programs like autocad and Sketchup e.g.
In the mind mapping world the only layer capable software I have found is VUE.
The idea is to use $tags with each note / node, then if I would enable a filter to use only a single $tag, only the notes / nodes with that specific $tag would be visible.

Is this conceivable?

Thanks!

Have you seen this - especially the last part that applies TB v6.4.0+ and DT v2.8.8+.

Footnote, it was probably a typo in your post but note that attribute names are case sensitive and Tinderbox's system attribute for tags is $Tags.

I'll give it a whirl tomorrow.
Actually I tried creating a rtf text item in Devonthink, added a tag, then dragged it over to TBX.
It created a note but I could not trace the tag.

Select your newly imported note. Press Cmd+@ to open the Quickstamp inspector pane. In the search box type 'Tags' (no quotes) and press return. The inspector should automatically select the $Tags attribute for you and will show any value present for the note. If blank, the DT tags likely didn't import though I can't guess as to why.
