Tab indents while typing in outline view
Feb 08th, 2012, 2:35pm

Right now, if you're typing a note and hit tab, it jumps to the next field.
If you're outside a note, but with the note highlighted, tab/shift-tab indents or outdents the note.  I'd much prefer it if I could indent/outdent while I was still inside the note, typing, instead of after I'm done.

The menu suggests that things should work that way; i.e., if I am typing a note and then go to Note | Indent, the note I'm currently typing indents.

But how would everyone else type a tab into a note's text if this happened?  Smiley

Interesting point.

One solution that you might find helpful is using the shift+return shortcut to create a note as a child. It's not exactly the same, but it's easy to overlook and immensely helpful.

Note (as tested in v5.10.1): Shift+Return only creates a child in Outline & Chart views.  In Map and Timeline a Shift+Return results in a sibling [sic] note. A Shift+Return in Treemap view has no result at all - not note is created.

Until I tested this yesterday, I'd assumed  - I think like many - that Shift+Return worked the same in all views. I'm getting clarification off list and will update the aTbRef listings of shortcuts appropriately once I know whether the difference is unintentional or not.
